Fletchers Group acquires medical negligence specialist Minton Morrill

  • Boost to group capabilities in serious childbirth injury
  • Aim to build nationwide presence for Yorkshire firm
  • Deal underscores appetite for more acquisitions in consolidating sector

Fletchers Group has acquired 100% of the share capital of Minton Morrill, a leading Yorkshire law firm specialising in complex medical negligence claims and Court of Protection work and who have consistently been ranked as a Top Tier firm in both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners directories.

Leeds-based Minton Morrill has over thirty years expertise of representing clients in high value medical negligence claims often involving brain injury. All members of their team, including directors Simon Minton, Julia Morrill and Sahida Patel will remain with the business under new ownership.

Peter Haden, chief executive of Fletchers Group, said the deal will enable Fletchers to leverage the reputation of Minton Morrill for its work in serious medical negligence injury.

“Simon Minton (managing director) and his team are highly respected across the sector, and have delivered exceptional results for their clients in high value medical negligence cases, especially birth injuries, where they have an outstanding reputation.”

He explained that Fletchers will retain the Minton Morrill brand and office in Leeds and bring new investment into the business to help it to become one of the leading specialist clinical negligence practices nationwide. The acquisition will also see the Fletchers business strengthen their own footprint into the Leeds area, part of an expanding portfolio of locations.

“The combination of talent at Minton Morrill and Fletchers will give all our existing and potential clients across the UK a high calibre team of legal professionals working on their behalf.”

“We have made clear our intention to acquire businesses which fit our strategy and enhance our pool of talent in medical negligence, and Minton Morrill is a perfect fit for us in this respect, as well as giving Fletchers a long awaited presence in Leeds, an area known for its legal talent.”

Simon Minton, managing director of Minton Morrill, said: “Peter painted a compelling picture of the opportunity for us as part of Fletchers, and we are excited by the prospect of being part of a growing and expanding business.”

“We felt that we would benefit from being part of a bigger group in order to push on to the next level of growth.”

“I am convinced that Fletchers Group will be the best possible custodians for our brand, our people and most importantly, our clients.”

The acquisition is the second for Fletchers Group since they were bought by private equity firm, Sun Capital, in October last year. The first acquisition was Cycle SOS, the leading national cycle claims solicitors, in May 2022.

Peter Haden added: “The outlook for consolidation in serious injury is positive. We remain keen to talk to vendors looking to create value from their life’s work and either retire or, like Minton Morrill, aim for further growth and success as part of a larger Group.”

“Sun Capital continues to be supportive of our growth aspirations and is focused on helping us invest to build scale and capability. Our pipeline is strong and I’m confident that we will bring more deals to completion over the next few months.”

The deal has received regulatory approval and the consideration is undisclosed.
