Hill Dickinson Achieves 7th Consecutive Year of Financial Growth with Expanded Global Reach

Leading international law firm Hill Dickinson has reported its seventh consecutive year of financial growth for FY23/24, driven by expansion across all three core business groups – Business Services, Health, and Marine and Trade – alongside several new office openings both in the UK and internationally.

The firm’s turnover reached £145.5 million, marking a 12% increase from FY22/23. UK turnover rose to £127.2 million, a 14% jump from the previous year. Profits available for distribution to all members rose by 13% to £54 million, while the firm’s headcount surpassed 1,000 for the first time.

The firm’s growth has been spurred by nationwide location and service-line expansion, including the opening of a new Birmingham office in February. Acting as a key strategic bridge between its London and northern locations, the Birmingham office welcomed three teams of lateral hires, including four partners, to offer corporate, commercial and real estate services within the region.

Hill Dickinson also celebrated the opening in January this year of a new long-term Leeds office based in 11 Wellington Place, more than trebling the size of its Leeds office space and signalling its commitment to further growth across the city and the wider Yorkshire region. In the North East, the business launched a six-strong marine team within its existing Newcastle office in May 2024, with the location having undergone steady growth since it was first established in 2022.

The business also underwent significant international expansion in FY23/24. This included welcoming a new team of 10 professionals into its Hong Kong office and three lateral hires in Singapore and continued strong growth in Piraeus, strengthening the firm’s maritime and transactional expertise across the globe. Within Europe, it grew its footprint by entering into formal collaboration agreements with leading marine law experts G Zambartas LLC in Limassol, Cyprus, and SMB Law in Geneva, Switzerland.

Craig Scott, chief executive officer at Hill Dickinson, said: “This has been another pleasing year of growth across the entire business. We’ve made significant progress in expanding our footprint in both new and existing locations that support our strategic plans, along with growing our international presence. It has all firmly laid the foundations for continued growth, enabling us to better serve our clients and provide them with unrivalled legal support and expertise wherever they may need it. As CEO, it will be my priority to continue delivering on this track record of sustained profitable growth to support the exciting investment plans that we are pursuing.

“Fundamental to our success have been our people, and our priority therefore remains to invest in the growth and retention of our talent. Whether that’s ensuring we attract the very best legal minds regardless of background or nurturing the next generation of talent through our graduate and apprenticeship programmes, our people will continue to sit at the heart of all we do, allowing us to build on our growth in a sustainable, meaningful way that supports both our clients and communities.”

He added: “Our noticeable successes in attracting senior hires lies in knowing that at Hill Dickinson they are seen, and that they can really help shape our future. We’re proud to be a progressive firm in which our people are encouraged to have a real voice in a partnership that is alive to the possibilities of change. We have maintained a genuine and enduring connection to our local business communities as we’ve grown. In this day and age, that matters more than ever.”
