The Amanda Greger babysitter sentencing has concluded with an Ohio court ordering the 38-year-old to serve a minimum of 3½ years in prison for the felonious assault of a one-year-old girl left in her care overnight.

Greger was sentenced in May after pleading guilty on 28 May to one count of felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence, according to a judgment and sentencing order reviewed by Law&Crime. Additional charges, including child endangerment, were dropped as part of the resolution.

The victim is Layla Bilby, the daughter of Greger’s friend Melissa Bilby. Local12 reported that family members spoke at a court hearing to seek justice for the child.

What Investigators Found at the Scene

When Melissa Bilby returned to her home in Goshen Township, in the greater Cincinnati area, after working an overnight shift, she found Greger asleep in the same room as the baby. Greger was allegedly wearing a hooded sweatshirt ‘covered in what appeared to be blood and vomit.’

Investigators discovered bloodstains ‘located throughout the room,’ according to the police affidavit. Layla’s clothing had been placed in the washing machine: ‘washed but still visibly stained,’ the affidavit states. Bilby confirmed that the stained clothing was what her daughter had been wearing when she left for work the night before.

The injuries to the infant included blood ‘seeping from [the] right eye’ and a brain bleed. Layla was admitted to the NICU at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and kept ‘heavily sedated’ by doctors.

The Amanda Greger Babysitter Sentencing: Background and Charges

The alleged abuse took place on the night of 9 November, according to WCPO. The Clermont County Prosecutor’s office originally indicted Greger on nine counts, including felonious assault, endangering children, and tampering with evidence. The majority of those counts were ultimately dropped in exchange for her guilty pleas.

Clermont County Prosecutor Mark J. Tekulve stated that Greger was admittedly intoxicated, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, on the night in question, according to Fox19. Vodka, THC, and muscle relaxers were referenced in connection with the case, as ABC6 reported.

At the sentencing hearing, Greger declined to address the court. ‘The Court inquired of the defendant if they had anything to say on their behalf prior to sentencing, or if there is any good and sufficient reason why sentence should not be pronounced, and the defendant stated they did not,’ the sentencing order records.

Subject to any onward proceedings, Greger will serve a minimum of 3½ years before becoming eligible for release. The case was prosecuted in Clermont County, Ohio, which encompasses Goshen Township.
