A Florida couple are facing multiple criminal charges after a Deltona couple charged with aggravated battery, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated assault allegedly attacked a 15-year-old boy who had dropped their daughter home after an all-night party, believing him to be an adult. Rosa Lamourt Tiru, 45, and her partner Lance Mulonas, 61, were arrested following the incident, which unfolded at a property on the 1500 block of N. Normandy Boulevard in Deltona at around 3 p.m.
Mulonas faces additional charges of false imprisonment and criminal mischief. WFTV reports that the charge sheet also includes aggravated battery, extending beyond the counts listed in the initial probable cause arrest affidavit.
Metal Pipe, Knife, and Gun: What the Affidavit Describes
According to the arrest affidavit, the teenager said that as soon as he pulled into the driveway to drop the girl off, a white van reversed to block his vehicle in. Mulonas allegedly emerged from the van holding a metal pipe and began striking the roof of the teen’s car when the boy rolled down his window.
Mulonas then allegedly held a knife close to the teenager’s neck. Tiru, meanwhile, was waving a firearm during the confrontation, police said. Mulonas eventually moved the van, allowing the boy to drive away. The teen met his mother at a nearby petrol station, where she called 911.
‘Two adults assaulted my son,’ the boy’s mother told dispatchers. ‘He’s 15. He’s a minor and they pulled a gun and a knife on him and damaged a vehicle.’
Tiru and Mulonas were, in fact, the first to contact police. They told dispatchers their 15-year-old daughter had been absent overnight and had been dropped home by what they believed was an adult. What they did not disclose was that they had already attacked the teenager and caused damage to his car. They also appeared unaware that the boy was the same age as their daughter.
Tiru was recorded on a call with dispatchers telling the boy: ‘You cannot go. The cops are coming.’
Deltona Couple Charged After Blocking Teen’s Car Appear Before Volusia County Court
Tiru and Mulonas were ordered held without bond at their first court appearance in Volusia County on Monday, according to reporting by the AOL/USA Today Network.
Tiru is described as a school employee. Following her arrest, she was placed on leave as a precautionary measure, according to the same reporting. The precise school or district employer was not confirmed in the available source material.
No further detail about the all-night party or how the teenagers came to attend it together has been confirmed by authorities at this stage.
Under Florida law, aggravated child abuse and aggravated battery carry serious felony classifications. Proceedings in the case will be heard before the Florida Courts system. The charges before Tiru and Mulonas encompass conduct involving both a weapon and the unlawful restraint of the victim, factors that typically weigh on bail assessments and sentencing ranges at the felony level.
The case drew wider attention in part because the couple’s own call to police set the investigation in motion, only for officers to establish that the callers were also the alleged perpetrators. The teenager’s account, supported by evidence of damage to his vehicle, formed the basis of the probable cause affidavit.
Law&Crime first reported the arrest details. Subject to any onward proceedings in Volusia County, both defendants remain in custody pending the outcome of bail review hearings.
